David
Orr - Bass
In over 25 years as a
performing musician, bassist David Orr has toured and recorded
with numerous rock and blues bands, including stints
with the Paul Butterfield/Rick Danko Band and Hound
Dog Taylor's Houserockers. Born and raised in Chicago, David
now makes his "sweet home" in L.A., where he's delighted
to have found kindred musical spirits in Blues Garage. [back]
Jose
Payo - Vocals, Keys, Guitar, Sax
Jose Payo sings lead vocal
and plays keyboards, rhythm guitar, and sax for Blues Garage.
He is also the bass player, back up vocalist and
arranger for Jessie
& The Raindogs (which features the 14 year old blues
prodigy and Jose's daughter, Jesse Payo). He previously performed
with Tom and Dave in the popular band MadWorld. In the
eighties, he performed with the Colorado Party Band, the
9th Street Vato Loco band and was also in the jazz vocal
group Elegy. Also in Colorado, he sang in Nutones,
a jazz vocal ensemble headed up by Duke Ellington vocal arranger
Herman "Harmony" McCoy. He has also written music for
theatre productions including the "Ballad of Colorado",
"El Corrido de Auraria", "Six Impossible Things
Before Breakfast", "The Round Table", and "Wait
Here". [back]
Tom
Romero - Lead Guitar, Vocals
Tom has racked up an amazing
amount of stage time. A self-taught musician, he has played guitar
in several bands through the years including MadWorld
, Carpet Mommy, and Noble Grover. Currently the
guitarist for 14 year blues phenom Jessie
& The Raindogs, he is frequently hired for studio work
having appeared on albums for Steve's Main Squeeze, Stinky
Pinky, Blues Garage and on the soundtrack for the
Newline film "Pass Rat", as well as several other short
films. In late 1997 Tom released his first CD "TAR"
on his own TARecords label (available at www.TARecords.com).
The CD, written and produced by Romero, features the regulars
Tom has played with over the years, including Blues Garage
bandmates Jose Payo and Spike. The track "The Denny Song"
will appear in the Miramax film "Telling
You", starring Jennifer Love Hewitt (Party of Five,
I Know What You Did Last Summer) and will be released in the
summer of 1998. [back]
Spike - Drums
The man behind the yellow
and black drum kit is Spike. Originally from the Monterey area,
Spike played bass in the Big Sur-based jazz/rock band
Canyon, keyboards in the Monteray rock band The Syndicate,
and later both guitar and drums (not at the same time) in the
U.C. Santa Cruz band Earth Penguin. Gravity and a transfer
to U.C.L.A. brought him to L.A. (actually it was a '67 Spitfire
that broke down three times on the way and caught fire upon exiting
the 101), and when he isn't banging out the blues with Blues
Garage he can be found at Lankershim Elementary School, where
he teaches kids to read under the nom de guerre Mr. Clarke. [back] |
